J.Rad statement over controversial benefit for High Pitch Eric
There has been much controversy over the benefit to raise funds for High Pitch Eric. VIEW J.Rad’s statement…
J.Rad Band Statement:
We seem to be getting a lot of comments from the Stern show fans, some good and some bad. Some feel J.Rad playing a benefit for High Pitch is a nice thing and others say it’s a bad thing. I’ve known him personally outside of the show for several years independent of J.Rad and I was on his call list.
The night he got evicted was a cold rainy night and Eric reached out to me during a J.Rad rehearsal. I had just been contacted by another friend who was setting up a benefit on Eric’s behalf. When the band heard Eric’s voice on the speakerphone it was the sound of a cold frightened child sitting out in the rain on 51st in Manhattan.
The band agreed to pay for a motel room for the night to get him off the street. I drove into the city and brought him back to a long island motor inn and returned him to the city on my way to work the following morning. We also agreed to play a set on Friday nite in support of the benefit.
J.Rad did not arrange the benefit, nor did we pass judgment on how deserving Eric is or is not. We are not social workers and we certainly are not financial advisors. Since we did not orchestrate the benefit we have no control or say as to how the money and proceeds will be distributed. We don’t even have an opinion on the whole thing.
Our taking Eric off the street that night was a spontaneous humanitarian effort. It was not done for notoriety or Stern Show publicity; it was our ability to stop one man from being homeless for one night. If J.Rad has offended any one by this action we apologize for it!
What we know best is Rockin’ Out! That’s what we do good, bad or otherwise! The rest is fate and we hope to meet and make a bunch of new friends at the show! Anyone requiring more info can contact us through WWW.JRADROCKS.COM
“If J.Rad has offended any one by this action we apologize for it!”
Why in the world would you even consider apologizing to anyone for anything that you did that was your choice? If someone does not get your gesture for Eric, then too bad! You should be applauded, and not put on the stand to be questioned for what was the right thing to do for a friend!
